On Sunday October 30th, my husband and I served about 50 residents of Kendallwood Senior Apartments in Gladstone MO and about 10 staff members. We had brisket, pulled pork, cheesy potato casserole, and baked beans. Kendallwood provided the dessert and drinks. This was our first time doing a Senior Q and we weren’t sure on portion sizes. We had plenty. In fact, there were enough leftovers for the rest of the staff members who hadn’t worked the day before to have lunch on Monday . So all staff and residents were able to eat their fill.
My husband and I sat with my father and ate lunch with him. As we were sitting after lunch, just shooting the breeze, I think every resident came by and thanked us for providing the meal and that they really enjoyed the meal. I was a little concerned about not getting the food too spicy and asked the residents if they thought it was too spicy. The resounding answer was no and I even got the impression from a few that they might have been disappointed that it wasn’t spicier. Maybe I’ll take it up a notch or 2 next year. Or maybe provide 2 options of sauce, mild & sweet or hot & spicy.
We didn’t get any pictures, we were so busy trying to make sure that there weren’t any “glitches”. Next year we’ll be much more calm and matter-of-fact about the whole thing. We’ll know exactly what to do and what not to do.
