On October 5, 2006 Greg Prothero (pictured far right) of P.H.U. Q’ers sponsored their second annual senior Q for the “Millianaires”, a senior group at the Millian Memorial Methodist church in Rockville, Maryland. Greg served up platters of award winning BBQ chicken, ribs and pulled pork; mounds of potato and carrot salads and deviled eggs rounded out the all you can eat buffet table. Many of those in attendance were spotted going back for seconds with some sneaking thirds and a few to-go plates even went out the door. “They (the seniors) must have been more prepared this year, they ate more” commented Greg as he refilled the roll platter.
Members of the “Millianaires” are very active in local and world wide communities. On the local level they help stock and operate the church’s food pantry that is used to help out the less fortunate. They are regular participants in the nation wide Camp Joy Project which helps build and repair homes. Several of the members have traveled to Nicaragua repairing and repainting playgrounds. The list of charitable projects that this group participates in is unending. Greg believes that “spending a day or two prepping, cooking and serving BBQ and sides is very little in comparison to what these seniors offer and do on a daily basis”.
Although Greg volunteers his time and talents cooking a variety of birthday dinners once a month for the residents of a local nursing home, the annual senior Q at the church has become his favorite event.
